New e-learning on Supporting Carers of People with Intellectual Disability

We have launched a new course “Supporting Carers of People with Intellectual Disability” on our e-learning platform.

The course is appropriate for health professionals who provide support to people with intellectual disability and their carers, and is an enjoyable and effective way to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting carers of people with intellectual disability.

Course information

This course takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and covers four topics:

  • Who is a carer?
  • Challenges in care
  • Supporting carers
  • Other important considerations

After completing the e-learning, learners should be able to:

  • Define what is meant by ‘carer’ and understand the roles of carers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Understand the challenges facing carers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Understand ways in which health professionals can support carers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Understand key demographic considerations and the way that they can impact supporting carers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Identify increased risks to physical and mental health experienced by carers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Provide practical supports to carers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Support the physical and mental health of carers of people with intellectual disability.

The course can be accessed after registering for an account on our e-learning platform or logging in if an account already exists. The course can be accessed for $30 per learner.
